Alok Raj appointed as new DGP of Bihar

Patna, Aug 30 (UNI) The Bihar government appointed Alok Raj, a 1989 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, currently serving on the post of the Director General of the Vigilance Investigation Bureau in the Bihar Police, as the new Director General of Police (DGP) in the state.

After his appointment, Raj took charge of the DGP here on Friday and will continue as DG of the Vigilance Investigation Bureau till further orders.

Raj, who has an experience of 35 years of policing, has succeeded Rajwinder Singh Bhatti, who has gone on the central deputation following his appointment to the post of Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

Starting his career as city SP Patna after his selection as an IPS officer in 1989, Raj has played a major role in unleashing peace in Nandigram in the capacity of CRPF IG.

Raj, the most senior IPS officer in the state, will be on the post till his retirement due on December 31, 2025. He had been awarded medals on several occasions and had earned applause for his significant performances as an upright police officer.

Raj, who hails from Muzaffarpur, is a gold medallist in geology and was conferred a presidential award three times for his achievements as a police officer.

The new DGP, who is the son-in-law of former IPS officer and governor of Chhattisgarh, D.N. Sahay, is a traditional folk singer.
