Amid row over police chief’s remark, ADGP says J&K Police apolitical, impartial force

Srinagar, July 17 (UNI) A day after Jammu & Kashmir Director General of Police R R Swain’s remarks wherein he accused regional parties of facilitating Pakistan’s “infiltration into civil society” and “hobnobbing with terrorists for political gains”, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Vijay Kumar said J&K Police is “apolitical” force and works on “impartial basis.”

AGDP law and order Kumar said that DGP’s statement may have been his personal opinion.

“ J&K Police from the beginning has been apolitical force and works impartially,” Kumar told reporters in Srinagar when he was asked about the DGP’s statement that triggered a political row. “It can be the DGP’s personal opinion and J&K police is a professional force, apolitical and impartial force.”

On Monday during an event DGP told students of the Indian Institute of Management in Jammu that “things had come to such a pass that the so-called mainstream political parties had started cultivating leaders of terror networks and sometimes directly to further their electoral prospects.”

Almost all the major political parties had sharply reacted to the DGP’s remark.

While the People Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti demanded the DGP’s sacking, the National Conference (NC), Member Parliament Aga Ruhullah said DGP has “arrogantly and overtly started bad-mouthing” and needs to be reminded that he was working like a state president for a particular party.
