Arab League chief condemns repeated Israeli attacks on Syria

Cairo, Mar 27 (UNI) Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit on Wednesday strongly condemned Israeli raids in southern Syria, which killed and injured civilians, according to AL’s statement.

According to Syria’s foreign affairs authorities, six civilians were killed and several others injured after Israeli air forces shelled the town of Koayiah in the southern Syrian province of Daraa on Tuesday.

Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee said troops “identified several terrorists who opened fire toward them in southern Syria,” and thus “returned fire in response.”

Aboul-Gheit reaffirmed rejection of the Israeli continuous raids on Syrian land, terming them as a blatant violation of the country’s sovereignty, and a blatant attempt to exploit the critical time that Syria is going through to plunder its lands and fuel sedition and conflict.

He urged the United Nations Security Council to take its role to stop the “brutal and unjustified Israeli aggression” against Syria.

He also demanded the international community take strong and clear positions to deter Israeli offensive against the countries and peoples of the region.
