Kolkata, Jan 25 (UNI) India’s Arjun Rathi emerged winner in the ITF Junior World Ranking Tennis Boys Singles as he outclassed Jan Chlodnicki of Poland in the final at the Bengal Tennis Association Complex here on Saturday.
Unseeded Arjun from Haryana opened the match with a drop of serve, thereby giving Poland’s Chlodnicki a quick lead of 2-0 but turned it round immediately as he won the next 3 games to get back to the set with a 3-2 lead.
At 4-5 on serve, Chlodnicki seemed to be a little low on confidence as he made 3 unforced errors, including a double fault to hand over the set to the Indian, ranked at 10 in the country.
In the second, it was 2-2 at the beginning from where Rathi proved to be too good for the unseeded Polish boy as he won the final by a straight 6-4,6-2, pocketing 200 international points.
In the Girls Singles event, it was more or less a one-sided affair as 2nd seeded Polina Kuharenko did not have to do much against top seeded Victoria Milovanova to eventually claim the title in an hour and 25 minutes and by a straight 6-3,6-3 win.
