Arunachal CM tables bill in Assembly to prevent unfair means in recruitment exams

Itanagar, July 19 (UNI) In a significant move to curb the irregularities and use of unfair means in public examinations, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu tabled ‘The Arunachal Pradesh Public Examination (Measures for Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Bill, 2024’ in the State Assembly on the first day of the six-day Budget session on Friday.

“The Bill has been proposed to provide for effective measures to prevent, curb and deal with the offenses of leakage of question papers and use of unfair means at public examinations for the purpose of recruitment to any post under the State Government including Autonomous Bodies, Authorities, Boards or Corporations.

The new law will work as a deterrent against unfair means in public examination authority and also against the examinees and criminal mastermind who resort to such tactics,” read the bill statement.

The proposed law has strict provisions of punishment of imprisonment and penalties, debarring of the candidates from appearing in recruitment examinations as well as attachment and confiscation of property. A provision dealing with designation of Special Court for speedy trial of such offences has also been provided in the Bill, it said.

Talking to media persons in the Assembly premises, the Chief Minister said that it is a very good initiative of the state government to curb the ill practice of paper leaks in public examinations. He said that once the bill is passed, no one will dare to do such malpractices.

Later, taking to his social media handle X, CM Khandu wrote: “Those who play with the lives of our hardworking youth, undermining their dreams and aspirations, will be held accountable!”

“This bill aims to put an end to the injustice of unfair recruitment practices and ensure a level playing field for all. We will not tolerate any act that jeopardizes the future of our young people,” he said.

The house also witnessed introduction of ‘The Arunachal Pradesh Amending Bill, 2024’ by the Minister of Law, Legislative and Justice, Kento Jini, and ‘The Balipara/Tirap/Sadiya Frontier Tract Jhum Land Regulations (Amendment) Bill, 2024’ by Minister of Urban Development, Town Planning, Urban Local Bodies, Housing, Land Management and Civil Aviation, Balo Raja.
