Awareness programme for childhood cancer launched in MP

Bhopal: National Society for Childhood Cancer in India, Cankids KidsCan is proud to announce a groundbreaking initiative to extend its reach and impact across 52 districts in Madhya Pradesh with aim to “Detect, Diagnose, and Refer” as the definitive solution to combat childhood cancer in the region.

The announcement has come straight after the Lokarpan of State Care Coordination Center and Home away from Home in Bhopal by Honourable Health Minister, Dr. Prabhuram Chaudhary, Govt of Madhya Pradesh recently.

The State Care Coordination Center and Home away from Home in Bhopal is set up by Cankids Kidscan who is working closely with the NHM, MP govt since April 2022, when Department of Health and Family Welfare Government of Madhya Pradesh had signed an MoU with Cankids KidsCan as their knowledge and support partner for Childhood Cancer in the State.

Cankids believes that with Sajhakaran (the collective efforts of Govt, Hospitals, Civil Society and Communities)Children with cancer in Madhya Pradesh willget best access to care along with right treatment support and care – through appropriate knowledge of where to go, timely diagnosis and treatment, shared care and continuity of care, working at all levels primary health care, district and tertiary cancer centres.

Speaking about this initiative, Ms. Poonam Bagai, Chairman Cankids Kidscan said”We firmly believe that the ‘Detect, Diagnose, and Refer’ approach is the most effective way to combat childhood cancer. By joining forces with government agencies, healthcare professionals, and the community, we aim to make a significant difference in the lives of children affected by cancer in all key districts of Madhya Pradesh. Together, we can ensure that no child is left without the care they need.”

To ensure awareness, reach and shared care toentire state, Cankids Kidscan has planned to cover 52 key districts via 5 major Childhood Cancer Divisions (CCD’s)namely Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Jabalpur and Rewa.

YANA Cankids provides social support teams

Under the signature program YANA Cankids holds the hands of Children with Cancer and families to prevent abandonment, initiate and complete the treatment and beyond until they find a sustainable option of livelihood. Cankids provides social support teams – social workers, patient navigators, dietitian-cum treatment support managers, psychologist -cum child life specialists, teachers, data managers, and a full range of social support services – including access to care and patient navigation, diagnostic and drug support, educational, financial, psychological and social support, treatment supportive care, nutrition, hygiene, blood support, and continuity of care – Passport2Life Survivorship services and SubhitaPediatric Palliative care services. Its Care centres include Home away from Homes for accommodation and a holistic environment for families who have come to the city for their child’s treatment, Canshala schools for formal education, and Subhitapediatric palliative care centre.

Ensuring support
To ensure all facilities and support to beneficiaries, Cankids KidsCan is dedicatedly working towards
•Developing Access2Care model including 4- tier Childhood Cancer Network with referral pathways from primary to tertiary level and for shared care at primary, district and tertiary cancer for diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and palliative care.
•Provide access to care information and awareness for health professionals, government officials, civil society, and patient families.
•Build capacities of health care professionals, allied social support teams and health workers as well as patient-parent education for childhood cancer.
•Ensure the provision of facilities and services for patient families including access to funding and financing through Govt and other welfare schemes, insurance, and financing schemes as well as donor support.
•Drive improved standards of access to treatment, care and support through improved quality, research, epidemiology.
•Ensure family engagement and patient participation of patients, survivors, and parents to ensure patients’ centric care.
