Bangladesh: Dengue death toll exceeds 400

Dhaka, Nov 17 (UNI) Bangladesh recorded eight more deaths and 994 more dengue infections in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease to 407 this year, media reports said on Sunday.

In the recent fatalities, 5 were reported in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), 2 in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), and 1 in the Chattogram Division (outside the city corporation), the Dhaka Tribune reported.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), during the period, 994 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever.

Of them, 236 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals under Dhaka North City Corporation, while 148 were hospitalised in Dhaka South City Corporation, the report said.

Over 4,173 patients are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals across the country.

A total of 69,922 dengue cases have been reported since January 1, 2024.

According to media reports, last year around 1,705 people lost their lives due to dengue, making it the deadliest year on record.

According to data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Ministry of Health, more than 400 people have died of dengue fever, out of nearly 80,000 cases reported across Bangladesh so far this year.
