Dhaka, Sep 29 (UNI) A Dhaka court has placed former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun on a four-day remand in a case related to the murder of businessman Abdul Wadud, who was killed in a police firing in the New Market area on July 19, media reports said.
The court also placed ward councillor Hasibur Rahman on a five-day remand in the same case, the Dhaka Tribune reported.
According to reports, Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Md Mahbubul Haque, granted a remand period on Sunday morning.
Earlier, the accused was presented before the court by the investigation officer and Sub-Inspector Raihan Uddin of New Market police station, who requested a 10-day remand.
The defence lawyer filed a petition seeking cancellation of the remand, and the state opposed it.
The court granted a four-day remand to the ex-IGP and a five-day remand to Rahman after hearing both sides, the report said.
On July 19, businessman Abdul Wadud was killed in a police firing in the Nilkhet area under the New Market police station during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
His brother-in-law Abdur Rahman filed a murder case against 130 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader.
