Dhaka, Jan 11 (UNI) With a rapidly deteriorating economy and the prevailing socio-political instability, combined with the pulling out of investors and expatriates no longer sending money, Chief Advisor Mohammed Yunus’-led-interim government is working on a roadmap to build investor confidence, and bring an elected government to power, a top official said today.
Speaking as the chief guest at an event in Dhaka, Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Mohammed Touhid Hossain, said: “When someone sees political uncertainty, they do not easily want to come and invest there. This is very normal because you must ensure the security of your money. This cannot be denied.”
The event, titled ‘World Conference Series 2025: Branding Bangladesh – NRB & UN Peacekeepers Leading the Way’, the adviser in his address acknowledged the challenges in regaining investor trust as well as the lack of financial security.
However, expressing optimism he said: “Restoring the confidence of foreign investors is a difficult task. We hope that a roadmap will come very soon. Then their confidence will easily return.
“That is why a difficult task lies ahead of us and we hope a roadmap will be released very soon. Then they will quickly gain confidence once again. Once a roadmap comes, many will feel secure, and investments will flow,” as per Business Standard BD.
Although he did not specify when the ‘roadmap’ would come, he said: “When a roadmap is released, many people will feel confident and investment will come. If investment does not come, we will not be able to continue. We have a large number of people entering the labour market. We cannot simply send them abroad. We have to increase employment for them in our country. For that, investment is needed.”
“Of course, you will keep an eye out for political certainty. We hope that we will be able to emerge from this uncertainty very soon. Then the investment environment will improve further and investment will come in. Employment will also increase in the country,” he added according to bdnews24.
“Our goal is to transfer power to an elected government through an election. We know this should happen as soon as possible. The government is working towards this goal,” Touhid stressed.
