Bangladesh reeling at 112 for 8 at tea

Chennai, Sep 20 (UNI) Bangladesh were reeling at 112 for eight at tea on the second day of the first cricket test against India here on Friday.

Earlier, resuming at 339 for six, India lost their last four wickets in 11.2 overs with the addition of 37 runs and were all out for 376 in their first innings.

Like India, Bangladesh too started its reply on a dismal note losing the top order cheaply as pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep accounted for the top three wickets.

After lunch, the visitors lost two more wickets in a shot span of time and were struggling at 40 for five in 12.5 overs, before a brief partnership arrested the slide, only to lose three more wickets in quick succession.

From 40 for 5, the experienced Shakib Al Hasan and wicket keeper-batsman Litton Das added 51 for the sixth wicket 15.3 overs before both of them fell to left arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja.

Jadeja broke the stand accounting for Litton Das, who went for a sweep and top edged to substitute Dhruv Jurel at long leg. He scored 22 in 42 balls with three fours.

Jadeja struck for the second time in his next over, accounting for Shakib who fell trying for a reverse sweep. The ball hit the bat and boot and lobbed to keeper Rishab Pant who held the catch and was confirmed by the TV umpire.

Shakib,scored 32 in 64 balls with five fours as Bangladesh were reduced to 92 for seven.

Bumrah, who came back for his second spell, induced an edge to remove Hasan Mahmud (9) at the stroke of tea to reduce the visitors to 112 for eight.

Bumrah finished with three wickets, while Jadeja and Akash Deep bagged two wickets each.

Siraj picked the other wicket, as Bangladesh trail by 264 runs and were staring down the barrel.

With just two wickets needed, it remains to be seen whether India will enforce the follow on or chose to bat for the second time.
