Bangladesh: Students’ sit-in to seek justice for slain protesters

Dhaka, Aug 14 (UNI) As part of “Resistance Week” organised by Bangladesh’s Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, a sit-in protest was proposed in Dhaka do demand speedy trial against those allegedly responsible for protesters’ killings during former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s rule, media reports said on Wednesday.

The protesters planned the march from Shahbagh to Rapa Plaza, followed by a candlelight vigil and prayer ceremony in memory of the martyrs, according to Dhaka Tribune.

Abu Bakar Majumder, the coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, urged all students and residents of Dhaka to participate and called for similar events across the country in places where students and others have been martyred.

The four demands of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement include a special tribunal to ensure speedy trial of the massacres conducted using the “fascist” framework by Sheikh Hasina , her party and government.

“Participants in the planned murders, robberies, and looting of minorities by the Awami League and its allied parties of the grand alliance, which aim to discredit the mass uprising, must be quickly brought to justice,” he said.
