Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur returns for Zim Test series

Dhaka, Apr 8 (UNI) Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday recalled veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim for the upcoming two-Test series against Zimbabwe, marking his return to the red-ball format after missing the home series against the West Indies.

The 36-year-old, who last played a Test in January, brings a wealth of experience to the side, having amassed 6,007 runs in 94 matches at an average of 37.8, including 11 centuries. His inclusion is part of a 15-member squad announced by BCB for the first Test, which begins in Sylhet on April 20.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, who also missed the West Indies series, resumes full-time Test captaincy duties. The squad also features young pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who receives his maiden call-up to the Test side after making appearances in limited-overs formats.

Tanzim (22) has represented Bangladesh in 10 ODIs and 22 T20Is, taking 37 international wickets thus far. His elevation comes amid the absence of Taskin Ahmed, who has been ruled out due to a left Achilles tendon injury.

The two-match series forms part of Bangladesh’s continued preparations in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle.

The second Test will be played in Chattogram from April 28.
