Bengal: CM removes Kolkata police chief, DCP North, 2 senior health officials after meeting with protesting medics

Kolkata, (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday night removed city police commissioner Vineet Goyal, DCP (North) and two Health officials – Director of Health and Department of Medical Education after a meeting with the protesting junior medics at her residence here.

Ms Banerjee, describing the meeting as fruitful, said a new CP would be named after 1600 hours on Tuesday, who will be given a new assignment.

She said there will also be a reshuffle in the police department. She also said the safety and security at the working place of the medics would be ensured.

Regarding the demand of removing the state Health secretary Narayan Nigam by the medics, the CM convinced the doctors that removing him will create a vacuum at the state Health secretariat, where the medics were on protest since Tuesday last.

The medics said many of the issues were settled and there were more things to be achieved as they will issue a media statement after having a general body meeting of the West Bengal Junior Doctors Front this midnight.

The medics came out of CM residence after about five hours.
