New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday paid rich tributes to Bhagwan Birsa Munda on his 150th birth anniversary and said that he inspired the tribal society to protect their motherland and culture and stood up against religious conversion.
On the occasion, the Home Minister also unveiled a statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda at Baansera Udyan here.
Addressing the gathering, Shah said that Bhagwan Birsa Munda was one of the great heroes of independence and did the courageous work of raising voice against religious conversion along with his studies at a young age.
He said, “Born in a small village, Bhagwan Birsa Munda, at a very young age while continuing his secondary education in 1875, raised his voice against religious conversion. When the British were ruling in India and also on the 2/3rd of the world, at that time, young Birsa Munda showed courage and stood up against conversion.”
Shah said Bhagwan Birsa Munda not only became the saviour of the original culture of tribals, but at the young age of 25, he told the countrymen through his deeds what life should be like, for whom it should be, and for what purpose it should be dedicated.
He said that the year from November 15, 2024, to November 15, of next year, the entire year will be celebrated as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas’.
“Our Prime Minister in 2021 had announced that November 15 will always be celebrated as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, as on this day in a small village in Jharkhand Bhagwan Birsa Munda was born,” Shah said.
