Paris, July 30 (UNI) India’s Bhajan Kaur became the first woman archer to make it to the round of 16 in the Olympic Games after decimating Poland’s Wioleta Myszor 6-0 in individual round of 32 here on Tuesday.
The flawless win came hours after Bhajan Kaur overcame Indonesia’s Syifa Nurafifah Kamal in a challenging round of 64 contest. Initially trailing 3-1, Kaur, who is the 22nd seed, demonstrated remarkable tenacity and technical prowess. She fought back with precision, winning three consecutive sets to seal a 7-3 victory.
In contrast, the day was less favorable for fellow Indian archer Ankita Bhakat. Ranked 11th, Ankita was expected to advance further but was edged out by the 54th-seeded Myszor in a tightly contested 6-4 match. This early exit is a poignant reminder of the unpredictable nature of the sport, where rankings can sometimes be overturned by sheer skill and perseverance.
