Bhopal emerges at top in violating traffic norms

1,594 traffic challans issued in 4 months

Bhopal has emerged at the top in violating traffic norms, despite the mandatory helmet and seat belt regulations in the state. In 4 months between July and October 2023, a total of 1,594 traffic challans were issued in the state capital, resulting in a cumulative fine collection of Rs 7.97 lakh. The concerning aspect is the persistent disregard for these regulations, as individuals continue to ride without helmets and drive without fastening seat belts.

Over 57 lakh penalty recovered in state

Following Bhopal on the list are districts such as Gwalior (2nd spot), Neemuch (3rd spot), and Alirajpur (4th spot). Gwalior saw 1,234 challans, Neemuch had 213 offenders paying challans, and Alirajpur recorded 1,051 challans. The overall amount collected by the state traffic police from all traffic norm violation cases in the state reached Rs 57.76 lakh.

Senior officials at the police headquarters (PHQ) revealed that they have not yet received the report on traffic violation cases registered from July to October 2023 in Bhind, Morena, Burhanpur, Singrauli, Katni, Indore, and Mandla districts.

Over-speeding matter of concern

Another serious concern highlighted by officials is the issue of over-speeding vehicles in the state. The Additional Director General of Police (ADG), G Janardan, emphasized that overspeeding remains an unresolved problem in Jabalpur, Indore, and Morena, contributing to a high number of road fatalities this year.

The number of road fatalities in 2023 until October has already exceeded the cases reported in 2022. Acknowledging the need for increased enforcement, especially on state highways, police officials stressed the importance of curbing road accidents and fatalities.
