Bhutan king offers prayers at Kamakhya Temple in Assam

Guwahati, Nov 3 (UNI) The King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck on Friday visited the iconic Kamakhya Temple here and offered prayers.

Amid intense security, the King spent around 15 minutes at the temple situated atop the Nilachal Hills.

The visiting head of state was accompanied by Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Barua and Education Minister Ronoj Pegu.

Earlier, the King was given a warm welcome by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and senior officials on his arrival at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport for a two-day visit to the state.

According to official sources, The King will attend a programme at Assam Administrative Staff College in Khanapara and then meet the Chief Minister.

The Bhutanese King will attend a dinner to be hosted in his honour by Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria at Raj Bhavan at night.

On Saturday, he will fly to Jorhat for a visit to the Kaziranga National Park. He will spend the night there and then leave for New Delhi on Sunday, the sources said.
