Washington, Sept 1 (UNI) US President Joe Biden confirmed that US citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin was among the six hostages killed by Palestinian movement Hamas whose bodies had been recovered by the Israeli forces on Saturday.
“Earlier today, in a tunnel under the city of Rafah, Israeli forces recovered six bodies of hostages held by Hamas. We have now confirmed that one of the hostages killed by these vicious Hamas terrorists was an American citizen, Hersh Goldberg-Polin,” Biden said in a statement.
The president added that Hamas leaders would pay for these crimes, while the work for a deal to secure the release of the remaining hostages was ongoing.
Hours earlier, Biden told reporters that participants in the Gaza ceasefire talks had reached fundamental agreements on a possible deal.
