Washington, (UNI) President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will travel to Maui on August 21 in the wake of the deadliest wildfires in Hawaii’s history, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Wednesday.
“The President and First Lady will travel to Maui on Monday, August 21 to meet with first responders, survivors, as well as federal, state, and local officials, in the wake of deadly wildfires on the island,” Jean-Pierre said in a statement.
The president and first lady will see firsthand the impacts of the wildfires and the devastating loss of life and land that has occurred on the island, as well as discuss the ongoing recovery efforts.
Biden remains committed to delivering all the assistance required by the islanders for the recovery, the statement added.
As of Tuesday night, the death toll from the wildfires in Maui County reached 106.
