Bihar: Nitish directs authorities to ensure proper maintenance of bridges

Patna, July 3 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday directed the authorities concerned to ensure proper maintenance of all bridges in the state.

Kumar, in a review meeting with senior officials, ordered technical assessment of all bridges in the state. All required steps including proper maintenance should be done of all bridges, to avoid any incident of bridge collapse or cracks, he added.

The Chief Minister said that a large number bridges were constructed after his government was voted to power in Bihar in 2005. Bridges were constructed to provide better communication facilities to people of the state, he added.

Kumar said state road construction department had already prepared maintenance policy of bridges. Rural works department should also prepare such policy for bridges coming under its jurisdiction, he stressed.

As it is, a total of ten bridges have collapsed in Bihar in last 15 days.
