New Delhi, June 22 (UNI) The BJP on Saturday slammed the Tamil Nadu government over the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy and demanded CBI inquiry into the incident.
The death toll in the tragedy rose to 54 with four more persons succumbing after consuming spurious liquor at Karunapuram. The victims include 48 men and six women.
Addressing a press conference here, BJP leader Anil Antony said, “BJP first of all, as a party demanded the resignation of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition and Excise Minister S Muthusamy with immediate effect. We also want a CBI inquiry and we are fighting for that.”
“However, here the responsibility is not just for one person… BJP also requested the CM to look into the prohibition policy. The Tamil Nadu BJP has announced Rs one lakh as compensation to family of each deceased,” he added.
Hitting out at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, he said, “We want to ask all these INDI alliance partners of the DMK why they are silent on this issue.”
He said, “There is a very clear collusion between the perpetrators of the hooch tragedy in Tamil Nadu and the government authorities.”
BJP leader Anil Antony said “Our entire state unit is fighting to get justice for the victims in Tamil Nadu and to ensure the well-being, health and safety of our brothers and sisters in Tamil Nadu.”
About 140 people out of 193 who were admitted to various government medical facilities after they consumed the spurious liquor on Tuesday night were currently safe as per the local administration.
