BJP to launch statewide stir against Waqf land claims

Bengaluru, Oct 30 (UNI) The Karnataka BJP has condemned the Congress government’s alleged implementation of “Tughlaq policies” that threaten the livelihoods of farmers across the state.

Starting November 4, the BJP will launch a statewide agitation focused on the controversial issue of farmers’ lands reportedly being claimed by the Waqf Board.

The party accuses the government of pressuring local authorities to alter land records, designating farmers’ properties as belonging to the Waqf Board in various districts.

State BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa has been vocal about the crisis facing the farming community, asserting that there is a conspiracy to misappropriate agricultural lands by reclassifying them in land records as Waqf properties.

“Minister for Waqf Board Zameer Ahmad Khan is pressuring all Deputy Commissioners to act as per the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s directives,” he told reporters on Wednesday.

Farmers from regions including Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Yadgir, Bidar, and Shivamogga have expressed their outrage over these developments, fearing for their ancestral lands. Vijayendra remarked, “Following these actions, the farming community is facing severe concerns. There is a need to stand with farmers and warn the state government.”

The BJP plans to hold largescale protests outside the offices of all Deputy Commissioners, demanding the immediate removal of Minister Zameer Ahmad Khan and the withdrawal of any land records that unjustly classify farmers’ lands as Waqf property. “Memorandums will be submitted through officials, insisting that farmers’ properties not be designated as Waqf lands,” he added.

The BJP State President further criticised the Congress government for failing to provide any relief or welfare programmes for distressed farmers during its tenure. Instead, he claimed that the government has moved to seize farmers’ lands under the guise of Waqf properties, particularly in districts such as Vijayapura.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, he drew historical parallels to the invasions of Alauddin Khilji and Malik Kafur, warning that the current actions of the Congress government may force the people of Karnataka to rise against what he perceives as a new wave of aggression.

“Under the current Congress government’s rule, the people of Karnataka may feel compelled to stand against these oppressive tactics,” he maintained.

As the BJP prepares for this agitation, they reaffirm their commitment to supporting the farmers and protecting their rights against what they allege to be unjust encroachments.
