Blast near police station in Amritsar

Amritsar, Dec 17 (UNI) A blast occurred near the Islamabad police station in Punjab’s Amritsar city early Tuesday, police sources said.

There were no reports of any casualties or damages from the blast that took place around 3 a.m, Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said.

A constable heard the sound of the blast, for which gangster Jeevan Fauji has claimed responsibility, said Bhullar.

Officials have reached the spot.

He said recently the police had busted a module involved in such criminal activities and arrested 10 persons under the Unlawful Activities (Protection Act or UAPA. So the criminals in desperation might have been behind the blast to register their presence.

He exuded confidence that those involved will be nabbed soon.

Notably, on December 4 there was a blast at Majitha police station in Amritsar. Also, an IED was found near Ajnala police station. A blast, reportedly, also occurred at Gurbaksh Nagar police station of Amritsar police commissionerate.
