- Information given by the Center in High Court
- People affected by the gas tragedy were to be treated in AIIMS
Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal
During the hearing of the cases related to the Bhopal gas tragedy in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, the Central Government clarified that the Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Center (BMHRC) will not be merged with AIIMS. On the demand to merge this hospital, built for the treatment of people affected by the gas tragedy, with AIIMS, the government presented its side and said that the Health and Family Welfare Department has already rejected it.
Before the double bench of Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice Vinay Saraf, the Center said that a tender was issued to digitize the data of gas victims, but it was canceled due to the bid coming from only one company. A new tender will be issued soon. The next hearing is scheduled for December 9. It is worth noting that in 2012, the Supreme Court had issued 20 instructions for the treatment and rehabilitation of Bhopal gas victims and formed a committee to monitor them. The court had directed that this committee will submit a report every three months, on the basis of which the High Court will give instructions to the Central and State Government.
During this time, a contempt petition was also filed for non-compliance of the recommendations of the monitoring committee. Advocate Vikram Singh, on behalf of the government, said that more than 70 percent of the posts of doctors and paramedical staff have been filled in BMHRC. An instruction was also issued to file a written reply regarding not merging BMHRC with AIIMS..
