Bollywood Film ‘Emergency’ release stalled in Punjab after protests

Chandigarh, Jan 17 (UNI) The release of Actor-filmmaker and MP from Mandi of Himachal Pradesh Kangana Ranaut’s movie ”Emergency” in Punjab on Friday was stalled by cinema exhibitors after SGPC and other organisations protested outside cinema halls/multiplexes across the state.

Activists of Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee and other Sikh organisations gathered outside cinema houses in Amritsar, Patiala, Ludhiana and Mohali among other cities to protest against the release of film.

SGPC had earlier wrote to Bhagwant Singh Mann government to ban the movie in the state.

The religious body has alleged that the movie was made with the intention of defaming Sikhs.

SGPC Chief Harjinder Singh Dhami said that it was unfortunate that Punjab government didn’t take any step even as the SGPC, on September 28 last year, had urged the state government in this regard.

Cinema house owners decided not to screen the movie.
