Budget session of Arunachal Assembly begins

Itanagar, Mar 6 (UNI) The Budget session of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly commenced at the Legislative Assembly chamber here on Thursday.

The day’s proceedings started with the Governor’s customary address to the members of the house.

Greeting the members to the Budget session of the 8th Legislative Assembly, State Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik said that the Budget for the financial year 2025-26 will not only lay out the strategic direction for the State’s development over the next year but will also serve as a blueprint and action plan for achieving the goal of building a Viksit Arunachal by 2047.

He said, through strategic allocations, the government aims to address the state’s multifaceted needs, fostering inclusive growth and sustainable development.

“By prioritizing the critical sectors, government will be setting the stage for a transformative era in Arunachal Pradesh, ensuring development benefits reach all corners of our society,” Parnaik said, adding that, “This budget will reaffirm our commitment to building a prosperous and progressive Arunachal, where every citizen can thrive.”

The annual budget for the fiscal 2025-26 will be presented by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister in-charge of Finance Chowna Mein on March 10 and the budget discussion will take place on March 12.

This will be the second Budget of the Pema Khandu-led BJP Government in its third term.

The Governor also said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the State is witnessing transformative growth across all sectors, driven by the dedication and hard work of the government and the people.

“This progress showcases our dedication in contributing to the nation’s ambitious goals, paving the way for a brighter future focused on sustainable development, economic growth, and social equity,” he said.

As Arunachal Pradesh continues to overcome historical connectivity and development challenges, Parnaik said, this budget session is an opportunity to effectively allocate resources, encourage sustainable growth, and implement policies that improve citizens’ quality of life.

“Our economy is growing at a rate of about 11.01%, which is higher than the national average of 6.5%. This shows the commitment of the people of Arunachal Pradesh to continue on the path of development and improvement,” he remarked while highlighting the various initiatives and achievements of the State government during the past one year.

“Recent initiatives such as the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsava held in New Delhi, the launch of the UNNATI scheme, and the strategic Vibrant Villages Programme in Arunachal Pradesh, along with the support we are receiving in every sector and sphere of governance, truly reflect the Government of India’s commitment in addressing the historical neglect and isolation faced by the North-East region,” the Governor said.

He further stated that Government’s commitment in bridging the gap between rural communities has resulted in a remarkable 251% increase in length of rural roads since 2016. This expansion not only facilitates smoother travel and transport but also opens up new avenues for economic growth and social integration.

With a 143% increase in the national highways network and the inauguration of the Sela and Nechiphu Tunnels, we are ensuring that Arunachal Pradesh is seamlessly connected to the rest of the nation. This enhancement in our infrastructure is pivotal in driving trade, tourism, and overall development, Parnaik noted.

Hailing the members as the embodiment of the shared dreams and aspirations of people of Arunachal Pradesh, and the fountainhead of all developmental activities, the Governor enjoined them to faithfully and tirelessly work for the holistic and inclusive development of every citizen of the State.

“Your efforts must focus on inclusive development, ensuring that no one is left behind. It is your duty to ensure the well-being of our citizens and to create opportunities for all, irrespective of their socio-economic background,” he advised.
