- Cyber fraudsters conned hundreds by posing as official SBI agents offering credit card upgrades
Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal
In a thrilling breakthrough, Bhopal’s Cyber Crime Branch successfully dismantled a major cybercrime syndicate operating a fake call center under the guise of SBI credit card updates. The criminals, who had been running their scam for over two years, targeted innocent credit card holders across the country, stealing large sums of money by pretending to be authorized SBI employees.
The operation began after a complaint was filed regarding a fraud where the victim was tricked into revealing an OTP for a credit card upgrade, losing Rs 95,500 in the process. Armed with technical intelligence, the Cyber Crime team tracked the fraudulent activities back to a call center in New Delhi.
Upon raiding the center, the police arrested four key members of the syndicate—Rahul Seol, Nidhi Verma, Priya, and Megha—who were responsible for making calls in fluent English, convincing people to share sensitive information like OTPs. The authorities seized nine mobile phones used in the scam. The suspects were operating from various locations, including Rohini and Janakpuri in Delhi.
The investigation continues as the team hunts for the mastermind behind this extensive fraud ring. This victory highlights the relentless efforts of Bhopal’s Cyber Crime Branch in cracking down on online fraudsters.
