Bhopal: On the solemn occasion of the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, a Cyclothon event was organized in Bhopal by the National Centre for Human Settlements & Environment (NCHSE) and Consumer Voice, New Delhi, in collaboration with Mahila Chetna Manch, Bhopal Bicycle Riders Group, Help Box Foundation, and Aadarsh Welfare Foundation.
The event aimed to extend heartfelt solidarity with families of road accident victims while advocating for stronger measures to curb over-speeding and save lives. With Madhya Pradesh reporting a high rate of speed-related fatalities, particularly affecting pedestrians, participants emphasized the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures to protect all users.
Event Highlights
The Cyclothon began at Ankur School, Dayanand Nagar, where Avinash Shrivastava of NCHSE, welcomed over 125 participants, including school students and citizens. He reiterated the purpose of the World Day of Remembrance, observed globally on the third Sunday of November to honor road accident victims and support their families.
T. L. Pandro, Sub-Inspector, Traffic Police, Madhya Pradesh, addressed the attendees, urging drivers and riders to strictly adhere to traffic rules and avoid speeding. He then flagged off the Cyclothon, which followed a route through TT Nagar Road, Mata Mandir Square, and Shivaji Square before culminating at Ankur School. Cyclists displayed road safety messages on their bicycles.
At the event’s conclusion, participants signed a memorandum addressed to Transport Minister and the Additional Chief Secretary, Transport Department, MP.
The Cyclothon served as a poignant reminder of the need for collective action to enhance road safety and protect lives.
