Canadian business aircraft crashes at Mumbai airport, three injured

Mumbai Sep 14 (UNI) At least three persons were injured after a Canadian business aircraft flying from Vizag with six passengers and two crew skidded off the runway and crash-landed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport here, officials said on Thursday evening.

The three persons who sustained minor injuries were admitted to a nearby airport hospital. Details of the injured are awaited.

According to preliminary information, the disaster is being attributed to heavy rains and low visibility at the time of the incident, around 5.30 pm.

Flight operations have been suspended.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade, police and airport rescue and relief teams have rushed to the spot.

“VSR Ventures Learjet 45 aircraft VT-DBL operating flight from Visakhapatnam to Mumbai was involved in runway excursion (veer off) while landing on runway 27 at Mumbai airport.

“There were 6 passengers and 2 crew members on board. Visibility was 700m with heavy rain,” aviation regulator DGCA confirmed.

Investigators are yet to examine the black box, which records all flight information, to ascertain what exactly happened.
