Change in Fastag rules

  • Three-year-old users will have to get KYC done

Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal
The central government has now made it mandatory to get KYC done for Fastag again every 3 years. It is necessary to get KYC done for such a Fastag by 31 October. Fastag can also be blacklisted if KYC is not done.

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) said in a press release that the rules of Fastag have been changed from August 1. Now it has been made mandatory to get KYC done for three-year-old Fastag. Also, five-year-old Fastag will now have to be replaced. After October 31, the Fastag which does not have KYC and which is five years old will be closed and blacklisted.

NPCI officials said that these rules have been implemented to make payment at toll gates more convenient and to remove the current chaos at toll plazas. Now those using Fastag will have to ensure that their KYC details should be completely updated to avoid getting stuck at the toll plaza.

Vehicle owners will now have to link Fastag with their vehicle’s registration and chassis number. Registration has to be updated within 90 days of purchasing a new vehicle. Fastag should also be linked to your registered phone number.

Update KYC online like this

You can update your Fastag KYC online. For KYC, you will need the RC of the vehicle, voter ID card for ID proof, passport, PAN card, Aadhaar card or driving license and passport size photo. If a Fastag older than 5 years or more is being used in a vehicle, then it will now be invalid. A new Fastag will have to be issued in its place.
