Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy criticises BRS government for neglecting sports

Hyderabad, Aug 25 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy criticised the previous BRS government for neglecting sports.

Presenting awards to 2024 Marathon winners at Gachibowli Stadium here, Reddy said the previous BRS government had neglected sports completely and the historic city of Hyderabad could not achieve any milestones in sports.

He said “My government is committed to promoting sports” and efforts are being made to encourage students to pursue sports as their lifetime career, he said.

Assuring that the government will bring past glory to the sports and Gachibowli will be developed as a sports village, the Chief Minister said.

The government will start Young India Sports University in the next academic year, he said, adding that it will hire famous international coaches and provide training to budding sports persons to win medals in the next Olympic games.

Earlier briefing the Union Minister, the Chief Minister said that the government will establish sports stadiums as per international standards so that the Olympics can be held in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad would emerge as a big Sports Hub, he said.

As many as 25,500+ runners registered for the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2024 powered by IDFC FIRST Bank. The event saw 12000 finishers. The event also saw 50 elite runners registered.

Three different categories of runs—10K, Full Marathon, and Half Marathon were flagged off at two different locations and concluded at Gachibowli.

The event saw participation from corporations, PSUs, Government entities, institutions, the Police, and the Army.

A total prize money of Rs 48,00,000 – across 3 race categories was awarded to top 3 finishers in the Male & Female Category.
