- Bains says on farewell – This is a halt, not an end
- Shivraj says- he completed the work without pressure
- Chief Secretary Veera Rana takes over charge
Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal
Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary Veera Rana started work as soon as she took charge on Thursday. Iqbal Singh Bains has retired. Bains’ tenure ended on November 30 after two extensions of 6 months each.
He was given farewell in the cabinet meeting on Thursday. Former CS Bains said that this is a halt, not an end. Will keep working, will remain active. He called Anand Vibhag his main achievement. In the farewell ceremony of Bains, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that what to live for if you live for yourself, one has to live for the country and society, this is what Bains has done. He did a good job. Whatever work was assigned to him, he completed it without any stress or pressure. Even during Covid he did better work. CM Rise School, Citizen Charter and Anand Vibhag were his best achievements.
This was the last cabinet of Shivraj’s fourth term
This was the last cabinet meeting of the fourth term of Chief Minister Shivraj. Along with all the ministers, senior officials were also called in the meeting held at Vallabh Bhawan. The cabinet had no agenda. Congress had also raised objections regarding this on Wednesday, even before the meeting. Former minister PC Sharma had said, there is no justification in calling a meeting without an agenda.
Confusion whether she will remain in the new government or not
The government has written in the order to give additional charge of the post of Chief Secretary to Veera Rana. It is clear that there is already confusion over whether she will remain in the new government or not. If the new government wants, it can keep her or can abolish the system of in-charge by appointing a new Chief Secretary. It is noteworthy that when Shivraj took charge as the Chief Minister in 2005, Bains was one of his special officers. When Shivraj returned to the government after the overthrow of power in 2020, within 24 hours of his oath, he removed the then Chief Secretary of the Congress government, Gopal Reddy, and made Bains the Chief Secretary.
Veera Rana will retire in 2024
Veera Rana, Chairperson of the Board of Secondary Education, is the second woman Chief Secretary of the state. The order of her appointment was issued at 8.30 pm on Wednesday night, while she had met the Chief Minister in the morning itself. Rana is going to retire in March 2024. This decision is also important because the future of Shivraj government will be decided in the counting of votes on December 3. The first woman CS of MP was Nirmala Buch. Her tenure was from September 1991 to January 1993.
