Beijing, July 15 (UNI) The Chinese Foreign Ministry warned on Monday that Beijing was determined to protect its sovereignty over Taiwan and would not allow its red lines to be crossed.
“No state, organisation, or person should underestimate the determination, unwavering will, and vast capabilities of the Chinese government and people to protect state sovereignty and territorial integrity. No one should believe they can cross the line in the Taiwanese issue with impunity,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told a news briefing.
The spokesman called Taiwan the main “red line” in US-Chinese relations. US arms sales violate the One-China policy and three US-Chinese communiques, he said.
“It is also a gross intervention in China’s internal affairs that deals serious damage to China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Lin added.
China imposed sanctions against six US defence industry companies and their executives on Friday for selling weapons to Taiwan, an island seen as a Chinese territory by Beijing. Taiwan has been governed independently of mainland China since 1949.
