City dons a festive aura; rush at shops selling Rakhis, gifts

Bhopal: As the auspicious occasion of Rakshabandhan draws near, the city of Bhopal is immersed in a vibrant festive spirit. Set to be celebrated on Monday, the festival has brought an air of excitement and joy to the city’s streets, particularly in its bustling markets like New Market, Chowk, Itwara, and Somwara. These areas are teeming with eager shoppers, all on the hunt for the perfect items to mark the festival.

In the days leading up to Rakshabandhan, Bhopal’s markets have witnessed a surge in activity. Women, in particular, have been thronging the shops, carefully selecting the ideal rakhi to tie on their brothers’ wrists. The rakhis, which symbolize the bond of love and protection between siblings, come in a myriad of designs this year. Shopkeepers, anticipating the rush, have stocked their shelves with thousands of varieties, ranging from traditional silk threads adorned with beads and embellishments to more contemporary styles featuring cartoon characters, gemstones, and even personalized designs.
