CM Dr. Yadavs efforts ensures potable water for Tikamgarh

Bhopal : Thursday, June 13, 2024, Thanks to the efforts of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, the Uttar Pradesh government has agreed to release 1.00 MCM of water from the Jamrar Dam in Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh, to address the drinking water crisis in Tikamgarh city. Dr. Yadav had instructed the administration to ensure a smooth supply of drinking water in Tikamgarh. Upon learning about the issue, he promptly wrote a letter to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, informing him of the situation. Taking immediate action, he contacted the Uttar Pradesh government to facilitate the release of the water.

In his letter to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav highlighted that Tikamgarh city relies on the Jamni River for its water supply. He explained that the city is experiencing a water crisis due to the reduced flow in the Jamni River during the summer and the construction of the Bhaurat Dam and Jamni Dam upstream in Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Yadav emphasized that the drinking water crisis in Tikamgarh could be alleviated by releasing 1.00 MCM of water from the Jamrar Dam. He urged the Uttar Pradesh government to issue instructions for this release from the Jamrar Dam in the Lalitpur district.

In response, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of Dr. Yadav’s request. Consequently, the release of 1.00 MCM of water was approved, resolving the drinking water crisis for approximately two lakh residents of Tikamgarh city.

In his reply to Chief Minister Dr. Yadav, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath said that 0.72 MCM of water will be released from the Jamrar Dam this month for the residents of Tikamgarh in the public interest. He also clarified that as the Jamni Dam was constructed in the year 1973 and Bhaurat Dam is currently under construction, the water passing through the Jamni River has not been blocked due to these dams. The water storage capacity of the Barighat Stopdam of Tikamgarh is less than the drinking water supply value; hence the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to provide drinking water to the citizens of Tikamgarh from the Jamrar Dam.
