Cold wave freezes Himachal after fresh spell of rain and snow

Shimla, Jan 13 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh shivered under a severe cold wave on Monday as dry and sunny weather returned after two days of cloudy and inclement conditions.

The cold wave has intensified significantly, causing minimum temperatures to plummet by 2-3°C in the past 24 hours. Severe frost and freezing temperatures have created challenging conditions, particularly in high-altitude areas, with black ice forming on roads.

While the Manali-ATR-Keylong road has been cleared and reopened, several routes in the tribal districts remain snowbound, limiting access to remote regions.

Minimum Temperatures Tabo minis: 10.8 degrees, Keylong: -8.7 degrees, Manali: -1.1 degrees, Kalpa: -3.6 degrees, Kufri: -0.8 degrees, Narkanda: -2.5 degrees, Una: 3.6 degrees, Shimla: 2.4 degrees, Dharamshala: 4.6 degrees, Mandi: 4.5 degrees, Kangra: 4 degrees, Hamirpur: 2.9 degrees. Bilaspur: 5.4 degrees, Nahan: 6.3°C, Jubberhatti (Airport): 4.8 degrees, and Bhuntar: 2.1 degrees.

Light to moderate rain and snowfall are expected in mid and high hills on 16th January 2025, with isolated rainfall in low hills and plains. Between 17th and 19th January, light rain and snowfall are likely at isolated places over mid and high hills, while dry weather will prevail in low-lying areas.

Minimum temperatures are expected to fall gradually by 2-4°C over the next few days. Dense fog is likely in isolated low hill and plain areas during the late night and early morning hours from 13th to 15th January.

Residents are advised to exercise caution due to icy roads, dense fog, and freezing conditions, particularly in high-altitude and low-lying areas.
