Cong condemns alleged assault on army official by Punjab police

New Delhi, Mar 22 (UNI) The Congress on Saturday condemned the alleged assault on an army official and his son by Punjab police in Patiala and said that law and order has collapsed under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab.

Addressing a press conference here, AICC ex-servicemen department Chairman Col (retd) Rohit Chaudhry alongwith party general secretary Alok Sharma called it a case of “hooliganism committed by people in khaki uniform”.

Chaudhry said, “A serving Army Colonel and his son were brutally assaulted by Punjab Police in Patiala. This is a very serious matter. In this incident, the Colonel’s hand was broken, but no FIR was lodged for four days’. It is clear that law and order has collapsed under the AAP government in Punjab. We have not seen such incident in Punjab before”.

He said that the whole country is hurt by this incident that happened with the army officer and his son.

Alok Sharma said, “The Congress party gave the slogan Jai Jawaan, Jai Kisan but today, the AAP government in Punjab has changed it to kill jawaan, kill farmer”.

He claimed that the incident on March 13-14 night and when the victim reached hospital at 1 am, the treatment was given at 6 am and even after four days, no FIR was lodged.

“Yesterday, with the intervention of the Governor, there was discussion of providing security to the victim’s family, but protection from whom? From the goons in uniform of the Punjab Police!,” he said.

The situation in Punjab is such that even a soldier is not feeling safe in the state. In the last three years, Punjab has turned into a ‘police state’, he alleged.

Sharma also demanded an FIR be lodged against the SSP Nanak Singh accusing him of trying to shield the accused.

The Congress leaders said that the Punjab jawans, ex-servicemen, common people and the party are standing with the family of the Army official.
