Cong expresses shock over Hathras stampede

New Delhi, July 2 (UNI) The Indian National Congress on Tuesday expressed shock over the loss of lives due to a stampede in a Satsang in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras.

In a post on micro-blogging site X, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said, “The news of the death of several devotees due to stampede in a Satsang in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh is extremely painful. The scenes of the accident are extremely heart-rending”.

“We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved families. We urge the government and the administration to leave no stone unturned in treating the injured and provide immediate compensation,” Kharge said.

He also urged the workers of the Opposition parties to provide all possible help to the people affected by the accident.

Senior party leader Rahul Gandhi said that the news of the loss of lives due to a stampede in a Satsang in Hathras is extremely painful.

“I express my deepest condolences to all the bereaved families and hope for the speedy recovery of the injured. The government and the administration are requested to provide every possible treatment to the injured and relief to the affected families,” Gandhi said on X.

He requested the party workers of the INDIA bloc to provide their cooperation in relief and rescue.

Meanwhile, Party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra too called the incident ‘heart-breaking’.

“May God grant peace to the departed souls. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. I appeal to the state government to provide proper compensation to the victims and make arrangements for the treatment of the injured,” Priyanka said on X.

At least 60 people were killed in the stampede during a Satsang in the Sikandra Rao area of Hathras district in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.
