Cong MP protesting NEET paper leak faints in RS

New Delhi, June 28 (UNI) Protesting NEET paper leak issue in Rajya Sabha, Congress MP Phulo Devi Netam fainted in the House on Friday afternoon and was rushed to hospital.

The MP was protesting in the Well of the House even as discussion on Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address continued.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar informed the House that Netam was being attended by doctors in the hospital and there was nothing to worry.

“I have got feedback from the hospital. She is recovering….doctors have said so. She will be there, according to doctors, for 2-3 hours for some tests. Officials of Rajya Sabha are also there. Deputy Leader of the House has also sent a similar message to my office that there is nothing, according to him, to worry about,” Dhankhar said.

The Rajya Sabha on Friday witnessed massive uproar with NEET protests leading to adjournment of the proceedings twice.

Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge raised the NEET issue and pressed for discussing the alleged paper leak in the House by suspending the listed business for the day.

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that 22 INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) MPs of the Rajya Sabha today gave a notice under Rule 267 for an immediate discussion on the NEET and NET scandals.

The discussion was however disallowed, triggering ruckus in the Upper House.

The Opposition MPs also staged a walkout over the alleged irregularities in the NEET examination.

“BJD MPs along with the entire Opposition walked out in protest from Rajya Sabha now after the demand for adjournment of House was not done despite Hon’ble RS MP Smt. Phulo Devi Netam fainting in the well of the House during protest,” Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Sasmit Patra said.
