Cong slams govt for Rs 50 hike in LPG cylinder

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) The Congress on Monday slammed the government for increasing the price of domestic gas cylinder by Rs 50, accusing it of “rubbing salt on the wounds of people” already struggling with inflation.

The party on its social media handle X, while calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi “Inflation Man” said, “Inflation Man’ Modi has given a big blow to the public in the form of inflation.”

“Modi government has increased the price of domestic gas cylinder by Rs 50 directly. Narendra Modi has rubbed salt on the wounds of people suffering from inflation,” the party said.

Moreover, the party also criticised the government over increasing the excises duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 2.

The party alleged that though the crude oil prices have reached its lowest level in four years, the Modi government instead of giving benefit to the common man by reducing the fuel prices has started “collecting money for itself”.

The party said that the government is proclaiming that “it will not impact the public”.

“The impact would have been on the public, through the fall in oil prices – but because of government profiteering, that won’t happen,” the party alleged.

It may be mentioned that the government stated that there would be no increase in diesel and petrol prices despite a Rs two per litre hike in excise duty on both fuels. However, it announced a Rs 50 rise in the price of LPG cylinders for consumers.
