Coordinated efforts for sickle cell anemia elimination have begun: Governor

Bhopal: Governor Mangubhai Patel has said that Madhya Pradesh’s tribal population stands at 1.9 crore, with over 55 lakh individuals already screened for sickle cell anemia. Among them, 1,20,935 are carriers of the disease, and over 18,000 are confirmed patients. Given the genetic nature of the disease, future generations are also at risk. Patel emphasized that coordinated efforts by the Central and State Governments are crucial for eliminating sickle cell anemia and outlined initial preventive measures being implemented.

Govt’s Commitment to Tribal Development: CM

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to eliminating sickle cell anemia. Comprehensive measures, including awareness campaigns, screening, treatment, and drug distribution, have been put in place in affected areas. Dr. Yadav emphasized the government’s dedication to the overall development of tribal regions, citing the first Council of Ministers meeting in Jabalpur as a step in this direction. He highlighted various development and public welfare activities being undertaken in the area to ensure holistic progress.

Earlier, vice president Dhankhar visited the exhibition organized by Women and Child Development, Panchayat and Rural Development, Public Health and Family Welfare, AYUSH and other departments. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav welcomed Vice President Mr. Dhankhar by presenting a turban and Mrs. Dhankhar a shawl and coconut as per the rich tradition of tribal culture. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav also presented a Gondi painting to the Vice President. A short film focusing on the ongoing efforts in the state to control sickle cell anemia was also screened in the program.
