Dalit, BC seers rally behind Karnataka CM amid Muda case

Bengaluru, Aug 25 (UNI) A delegation of influential seers from Dalit and backward class communities met Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday, offering their “unconditional moral support” following Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s decision to sanction prosecution against him in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment case.

The Chief Minister’s office responded robustly to the Governor’s move, accusing the Central government and the Raj Bhavan of attempting to destabilise the state administration. The statement from Siddaramaiah’s office emphasised the seers’ commitment to uniting against these perceived conspiracies and supporting the Chief Minister’s leadership.

Governor Gehlot’s decision on August 16 to approve prosecution under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 218 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, has posed a serious challenge to the Congress government, which has been in power for nearly 15 months. The sanction follows petitions from activists Pradeep Kumar S P, T J Abraham, and Snehamayi Krishna, who allege corruption in the MUDA site allotment.

In a related development, the High Court has instructed the special court for people’s representatives to postpone its proceedings against Siddaramaiah until August 29, providing a temporary reprieve amidst the unfolding legal battle.

The delegation comprised prominent spiritual figures, including Jagadguru Sri Niranjanananda Puri Swamiji of the Kaginele Kanaka Guru Peetha, and Jagadguru Sri Shanthaveera Mahaswamiji of Sri Jagadguru Kunchitiga Mahasamsthana Math (Hosadurga).
