Death toll from Morocco earthquake rises to 1,037

Rabat, Sep 9 (UNI) The death toll from the earthquake in Morocco has risen to 1,037, while another 1,204 people have been injured, the Al-Arabiya broadcaster reported on Saturday, citing data of the Moroccan Interior Ministry.

Earlier reports said there were 820 fatalities and 672 injured. Some 720 people among the injured are in critical condition, the broadcaster noted.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center said that a 6.9-magnitude earthquake hit Morocco late Friday 77 kilometers (48 miles) southwest of the city of Marrakesh with a population of 839,000 people.
