New Delhi, Sep 29 (UNI) Assuring the people of Delhi of pothole-free roads before Diwali, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Sunday announced that all Delhi cabinet ministers, along with local MLAs and PWD officials, will assess the roads of the national capital, and road repair work will begin next week.
Addressing the media after holding a meeting with all ministers and PWD officials at the Delhi Secretariat, Atishi said, “Over the past two days, Arvind Kejriwal and I visited various parts of Delhi to inspect the road conditions. During this time, it became evident that the condition of Delhi’s roads is very poor.”
“Many roads are damaged, and potholes have formed due to rain. Agencies like Delhi Jal Board, BSES, and Tata Power have carried out their respective works, but the roads were not repaired afterward, leaving the public struggling with broken roads,” Atishi said.
Referring to Kejriwal’s letter requesting immediate action to repair Delhi’s roads, Atishi said, “Following this, an all-minister meeting was convened at the Delhi Secretariat. The Chief Secretary and the entire PWD department were also present at the meeting, which lasted for an hour.”
“In this meeting, a comprehensive review of 1,400 km of PWD roads was conducted to assess which roads are completely damaged and need reconstruction, which roads have partial damage requiring 100-200 meters of repair, and which roads have only small potholes that need filling,” she added.
“Starting Monday, the entire cabinet of the Delhi government will be on the streets of Delhi. All ministers, including myself, have taken responsibility for different areas, where we will personally inspect the roads and determine the required work,” Atishi said.
“If a road needs to be completely rebuilt, repaired, or if it only has potholes that need filling, we will evaluate it,” she added.
“Over the next week, each meter of the 1,400 km of PWD roads in Delhi will be inspected. As soon as the inspection is completed, road repair work will begin at a war footing from the following week,” Atishi asserted.
“PWD has been given a target to repair its 1,400 km of roads in the month of October,” Atishi said, adding, “We expect that by the end of October, i.e., by Diwali, we will be able to provide the people of Delhi with pothole-free roads.”
