Delhi court dismisses J&K MP Engineer Rashid’s plea to attend parliament session

New Delhi, Mar 10 (UNI) A Delhi court on Monday dismissed the application of Jammu and Kashmir MP Engineer Rashid seeking custody parole to attend parliament session.

Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Chander Jit Singh after hearing arguments on behalf of the prosecution and defence dismissed the application of the custody parole.

The counsel for Rashid moved an application on February 27 seeking custody parole on the grounds that he needed to attend parliament as an MP and to fulfil his public duty.

Engineer Rashid defeated Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls in Baramulla constituency.

He was arrested by the NIA under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a 2017 terror funding case and lodged in Tihar Jail.

The NIA after investigation filed a chargesheet against several persons, including Kashmiri Separatist Leader Yasin Malik, Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen Chief Syed Salahuddin in the court.
