- Files complaint in Bhopal
Bhopal: A fresh political storm is brewing after Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s recent remarks about his rose-flavored beverage drew strong criticism from senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh. On Monday, Singh submitted a formal complaint at TT Nagar police station, accusing Ramdev of inciting communal hatred under the guise of promoting his product.
“Sharbat Jihad” allegation sparks controversy
According to Singh, Ramdev allegedly referred to other rose sherbet brands as “jihad sharbat” during a promotional campaign for his own product. The statement, Singh claims, is not only communal but also deliberately aimed at creating religious divisions. He further alleged that Ramdev advised people not to purchase from Muslim-owned shops, stating that money spent on such products ends up funding mosques and madrasas.
“Business baba crosses the line”: Digvijaya Singh
Speaking to the media outside the police station, Singh didn’t mince words. “Ramdev is not a saint, he’s a businessman in saffron robes,” he said. “To boost his sales, he’s willing to go to any extent—even if that means sowing seeds of hatred among communities. He tried selling his products in the army and even in Nepal, but they were rejected there too.”
FIR under IT Act demanded
In his complaint, Singh urged the police to register an FIR under the IT Act, citing that Ramdev’s remarks—allegedly circulated on social media—violate laws pertaining to hate speech and online misinformation. He said the comments had hurt religious sentiments and were contributing to a growing atmosphere of mistrust and communal polarization.
As political tensions rise, all eyes are now on how law enforcement and the judiciary respond to this volatile issue.
