Vienna, Oct 28 (UNI) Britain’s Jack Draper claimed the Vienna Open title here, defeating Karen Khachanov of Russia 6-4, 7-5.
Draper won the opening set and led 4-0 in the second set before Khachanov won five games in a row on Sunday.
However, Draper regained momentum in time to close out the set and win his maiden ATP 500 title and second ATP Tour title.
“It got really tight there, but I stayed solid and in a good mental frame. Luckily I was able to come through,” Draper said after the match.
“To win my first ATP 500, it feels incredible. I am incredibly happy and so proud of myself and my team,” he added.
“I was close to coming back, and that just shows you need to stay there, be positive and fight hard,” Khachanov said.
Draper’s victory on Sunday also ended Khachanov’s eight-match winning streak on tour. The Briton will rise to a career-high No. 15 in the ATP rankings on Monday.
