New Delhi, Jan 24 (UNI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called on visiting Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and said his participation as Chief Guest at the 76th Republic Day will be a fitting celebration of the cherished bilateral friendship.
“Pleased to call on President Prabowo Subianto @prabowo of Indonesia at the start of his State Visit to India.
“Value his guidance and positive sentiments for the development of our multifaceted bilateral ties.
“President @prabowo’s participation as Chief Guest in India’s 76th Republic Day will be a fitting celebration of our cherished friendship.”
On Saturday morning, President Subianto will be accorded a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan, ahead of holding bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in the afternoon at Hyderabad House.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will call on him at Taj Mahal Hotel, and later he will have a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu in the evening.
This is the first visit of President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto to India as Head of State.
Earlier, President Sukarno, the first President of Indonesia, was the Chief Guest at India’s first Republic Day in 1950.
President Prabowo will be the fourth Indonesian President to attend India’s Republic Day celebrations.
A 352-member marching and band contingent from Indonesia is also participating in India’s Republic Day Parade on Sunday. This will be the first time that an Indonesian marching and band contingent will participate in a national day parade abroad.
