EAM Jaishankar inaugurates two key India-aided projects in Addu City

Male/New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday visited Addu City in the Maldives where he inaugurated key projects executed with Indian support, including a land reclamation project.

EAM Jaishankar’s official visit to the Maldives is the first by an Indian dignitary since President Mohamed Muizzu assumed office.

Upon his arrival at Addu International Airport, EAM Jaishankar was warmly received by Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer, Addu Mayor Ali Nizar, and other senior government and Addu City Council officials.

During his visit, EAM Jaishankar inaugurated the Addu Reclamation Project and Addu Shore Protection Project. Another project, a Bridge linking Gaukedi and Maradhoo, is being constructed by India’s AFCONS company.

India believes that the Hankede Bridge project will help boost tourism in the Maldives as the area where the bridge is located is to be developed for economic purposes. Additionally, the land reclamation project is expected to address the housing challenges faced by the residents of Addu City.

President Mohamed Muizzu has expressed optimism that Minister Jaishankar’s visit will further solidify the enduring friendship and cooperation between India and the Maldives.
