EAM to visit Mauritius, call on PM Jugnauth

New Delhi, July 15 (UNI) External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will be paying an official visit to Mauritius from July 16-17, during which he will call on Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and hold bilateral meetings with other senior ministers of the Government of Mauritius.

The visit is among the first few bilateral engagements undertaken by EAM following his re-appointment and follows the recent visit of Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, to India for the swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet and Council of Ministers of PM Narendra Modi, a statement said.

EAM had previously visited Mauritius in February 2021.

During the visit, EAM will also engage with other prominent Mauritian leaders. The visit will provide an opportunity for both sides to comprehensively take stock of various facets of the bilateral relationship.

The visit underscores the importance of the India Mauritius relationship, and is a reflection of India’s ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’, Vision SAGAR, and commitment to the Global South. It also reaffirms the continued commitment of both countries to strengthen further the multi-dimensional bilateral relationship and deepen close people-to-people ties, it said.

This will be the EAM’s fourth bilateral visit to a country since his reappointment to the post. He had previously gone to Sri Lanka, to the UAE and to Qatar. He had also visited Astana where he led the Indian delegation to the SCO Summit. Besides, he was part of PM Modi’s delegation to the G7 Summit in Italy, and accompanied the PM during his official visit to Russia and to Austria last week.
